“April was a whirlwind of adventure!  Another Emmy award winning director, Benedict Hadley, had begun filming a reality show about VIP, entitled VIP/NYC, and I was cast in a leading role.  I was instructed to carry a KodakZi8 camera with me at all times, filming myself throughout the course of my adventures.  Some of these adventures included volunteering some time at the 3 Dot Dash International Youth Leadership Summit for global peace, hosted by the great producer, Nile Rogers.  I also documented my double-life as a regular on-air model for the QVC Network, modeling cosmetics for (the fabulous) Laura Geller.”

Benedict Hadley was born on November 27, 1981 and raised in Brooklyn, New York, where at an early age he began attending specialized schools that honed his skills as an artist through education and training in fine arts, commercial arts and architecture. Benedict has been shooting films since the age of 12 and professionally since the age of 17. His distinct emotional and technical connection to film and video has led him to work with a gamut of clientele that range from American Zoetrope, Jay-Z, L’oreal, PBS, Warner Music Group, G-Unit, Viacom and many others.

Benedict’s first film “The National Anthem” is a 25 minute film devoid of dialogue featuring a score by Carlos Dengler the former bassist and keyboardist of Interpol. The film has been well received, screening throughout the world including a private screening to Canal Plus at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.

Alycia Kaback would like to share a little about her life. If you really want to “make it,” or if you’re like Alycia Kaback and you just “have to,” then believe me, her story is worth your time.

Alycia Kaback explains, “This video is one of the original “sizzle reels” I had developed (at my own cost – which means my own money was at risk) for a Reality Show based in NYC about breaking into the entertainment industry. The show was to take a realistic perspective on the hard work and everything it takes to make it as a model, actor, or performer in NYC.

When this video and a few other sizzlers were previewed to industry insiders– agents, managers, casting directors, etc. they loved the realism. The talent working in the industry loved it too. People said this is what the world needs– realism, not the idea of instant fame. “Sounds like a winner,” I thought! I actually started to look at new cars and a designer purse I had promised to get myself, when “I made it.” (Admit it! You would do the same thing.)

Well, guess what– the decision makers who approve the shows you see on television loved it also, but… The “hold-up” they told me was that the advertisers who pay for the majority of a new production’s costs needed a scripted drama that would show the television audience what they perceived working in the entertainment industry was like. Mainstream America, the advertiser’s target audience, was not interested in hard work, but glitz and glamour. From those suggestions, the concept of the Model Diaries NYC was born. Through the Model Diaries NYC, we could give mainstream America the drama of the competitive and glamorous world of high-end modeling, yet stay true to our original concept of telling “it how it is.” With that inside info, enjoy a little bit of Reality Television history, which never was. (Well not yet at least.)
